Looking Back & Looking Ahead

“If life was a book; every day would be a new page, every month would be a new chapter, and every year would be a new series.”

An entire year has gone by and tomorrow will be the beginning of a new series. A complete clean slate, a chance to redeem ourselves, a fresh start. Whatever has gone wrong this year, 2016 is the year to put it all right. Enter the year with a positive attitude and you will have a positive year.

This year has been a massive learning curve, I learnt a lot about myself and the people around me, many friendships have been lost but better ones have been made. I had a lot of negative people in my life at the beginning of the year and as the months went by, I realised that they were having an effect on my happiness so I made the conscious decision to cut off communication with these people and I have never been happier. Surrounding yourself with people who make you happy and feel better about yourself is really important for your mental well being, I learnt this the hard way.

January through to June were pretty standard, nothing bad happened but nothing particularly exciting happened either.  Then came July. In July I got a job at the Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe in Hitchin | A Quick UpdatePreviously, I had two paper rounds, one on a Thursday and the other on a Sunday which pretty much funded my lifestyle but Year 11 was a matter of months away and I needed a proper job so that I would only be working once a week, giving me more time to concentrate on my studies. Five months later, my best-friend, Roni, also works at the Sweet Shoppe and I could not be happier.

Not only did I land myself a job at the most amazing place ever, I also landed myself a monthly column in LoveMag. Starting my blog was the best decision I ever made, I have had so many opportunities in the last almost two years, here's to bigger and better things for Fran & Co in 2016!

Also in July, I went to Thrope Park for the first time, I documented my experience here | A New Adventure and on Tuesday 14th July, after 4 years of intense hard work, my Mum graduated from the University of Bedfordshire with a degree in Business Management.

August through to December have been pretty hectic, deadlines here, there, everywhere! But deadlines have not stopped me from being a shopaholic, my yearly bank statement is sitting on my desk, unopened and that is how it will remain until I am mental stable to accept the damage I have done over the past 4-5 months.

On December 26th, I turned 16, at last I can do online banking and open an ISA with Barclays, the little things ay. My bestfriend Roni and I drove down to London to tackle the Boxing Day sales, suprisingly it was not as busy as expected. I was born and lived in London, so going back every now and again brings back many childhood memories. Whilist in London, we decided to head to Winter Wonderland, we went for the first time last year | Winter Wonderland 2014 and have made it a yearly tradition to go together. I have never celebrated a birthday with a friend before, most of my previous birthdays have been spent with family. Probably the best birthday I have ever had, huge thank you to Roni, Kingsley and Nina for making my day extra special!

It is time to start thinking of things I would like to achieve and do in 2016. Next year I will be documenting all my achievements and adventures, I really want to expand my blog and make it more personal. I have met some amazing people through blogging this year, Florence, Amber, Tori the list goes on and next year, I would like to meet more of you and create even more friendships.

Next year I will stay organised. This is something I did quite a lot in 2015 and next year this will be a cruical as I have my GCSE exams starting in May. I want to make sure I am fully organised so I can avoid unwanted stress and achieve the best possible grades. So that I have regular posts during the next few months, I have decided to start a blogging schedule for 2016, a new post will go up every two weeks on a Monday at 18:00 GMT.

I will also be more adventurous and will explore more cities and embark on new experiences and adventures.

And lastly, I will focus on my happiness. I will do things that make me happy and surround myself with people who make me happy. I will be the best possible version of me. As a society, I think we have lost who we really are, many of us are constantly wishing we could look like someone else or have another life. This year I want to be content and appreciate the things I have and the people in my life.

What are your New Year’s Resolutions and Goals for 2016?

A Timeless Classic

Daniel Wellington do a range of beautiful classic watches, some with leather straps and some with fabric straps. I had my eye on the Rose Gold Classic Sheffield | £159 for a while and since my birthday was coming up, I thought there was no better time than to finally invest in one. I am completely in love with the simplicity of my Daniel Wellington watch. I never realised that one small accessory could transform an otherwise casual outfit into something elegant and sophisticated. Watches are timeless classic. No matter what the occasion, dress code or season you can never go wrong with a Daniel Wellington watch.

Bath Time Essentials

I begin by running myself nice warm bath then I pour two handfuls of the Radox muscle soak bath salts under the running water. Unfortunately, I chucked away the box before I could photograph it for this post. The salts are extremely soft on the skin and leave your muscles feeling fully relaxed.

There are only two products I reach for when I am in the bath; one is a body wash and the other is an intimate skin wash. I love the Soap & Glory sugar crush range | Prices range from £4.00 to £9. Let’s begin with the scent, I am not usually the biggest fan of citrus scents but the lime oil and kiwi juice water come together beautifully. Making sure your intimate skin is kept clean and fresh is important. FemFresh | £3.69 (250ml) is a gentle pH balance wash for your intimate skin; recently they have extended their range and are now producing a variety of scents. Not much I can say about FemFresh other than it is a product that is definitely worth trying out and adding to your daily shower or bath routine!

After my bath I slather myself in the Soap & Glory Righteous butter | £10 (300ml).  I must admit the scent can be a little overpowering, however, the butter is phenomenal. It is formulated for dry skin and as someone who suffers from eczema, it can be very difficult to find body butters that are moisturising and do not feel heavy or irritate my skin.

When I am dry and in my fluffy Primark pyjama’s, I light my Christmas cookie Yankee Candle | £12.49 and watch a movie or series on Netflix.

Before bed I try to turn off my laptop, phone and tablet at least half an hour before bed so I can fully switch off. I make myself a caffeine-free mint infused tea and spend 10-15 minutes colouring. Colouring has been proven to de-stress and relieve anxiety – Adult colouring books can be found in almost every book shop, Johanna Basford adult colouring books are simply the best.

Loving Yourself

When you love who you are, you accept who you are

We rarely give ourselves the credit we deserve – If we treated ourselves with the same kindness we use on others, we would live happier lives. So why do we neglect ourselves when our lives come crashing down? We are only human, mistakes happen, nothing in our lives is meant to be perfect or will ever be perfect. Bad things are only temporary.
Acceptance. Accepting that you are, who you are is a huge part of self loving. When you learn to love yourself, you do not need the approval of others in order to be who you are and to be happy.

It is important to treat yourself regularly. I think the fun part of self-love is rewarding yourself. If you have made a significant accomplishment or had a hard week at work, school, college or university - even if you have no reason at all, treat yourself. I do not mean go out and buy yourself a new designer bag, simply dedicating some time for yourself, every week, to do whatever you want. Whether you go out for dinner or just have a pamper evening, always treat yourself.

When you love yourself, you look better. You can concentrate on your strong points instead of your weaknesses and imperfections. Everybody has imperfections but many go unnoticed. When you accept your imperfections, you became even more beautiful and the world around you changes. It enables you to look at things, people and life from another perspective, a better perspective.

And lastly, do not let a bad day make you feel like you have a bad life.

Quick Update

I would like to apologize for the lack of posts on my blog as of late. I have not abandoned you guys, I have just been going through a case of writers block and needed some time off to conjure up fresh and exciting ideas. Currently I am working on a Christmas gift guide series, the first of my three part gift guide series will go live on Monday at 6PM (GMT), be sure to keep your eyes peeled!

The past two weeks have consisted of revision and work, nothing exciting. Unfortunately, the next few weeks are going to be pretty much the same as I have exams coming up at the beginning of December.

December is going to be pretty exciting month for me as I will be turning 16 and will also be featuring in the December Issue of Love Mag. I am unaware of the exact date that the December issue will be out but I will be sure to announce it on Twitter, @franciscarockeyIf you would like to read my article discussing the Tampon Tax, then you can pre-order an issue online from LoveMag@gmail.com – Currently the magazine is only available to order online, hopefully future issues will be available in stores.

Also, I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who views my blog. I recently reached 10,000 page views.

Hope you are all having a lovely weekend!

The Art of Now

We live in an age of distraction. The future depends on our ability to pay attention to the present.

Sometimes we all need to take a step back and enjoy what is in front of us. It is easy to let social media, mobile phones and various other devices take control of our lives.

It seems like on a day to day basis, I see people glued to their mobile phones when they could be interacting with other humans. We need to take back control of our minds and stop compulsively checking our emails, Facebook updates, and text messages. How many friendships are lost because of lack of communication? How many moments are missed when you are updating your status?

Living in the moment means giving your full attention to the present. Observe your thoughts, surroundings and your current situation. Avoid worrying about the future, focus on the present. Instead of letting your life go by without living it, let go of the objects, people or whatever is holding you back and allow yourself to fully experience the wonderful things that life has to offer.

Soap & Glory Brow Archery

Brows can either make or break your face. In order to achieve the perfect brow, you need to have the perfect product. For a long time, I was certain that the Benefit Brow Zings was the best brow product on the market but after trying out the Soap and Glory brow archery, my opinion has been changed.

The range has two shades, Blondeshell for golden-haired girls and Hot Chocolate for brunette beauties. I am quite disappointed that there is not a wider colour range but nevertheless the product is outstanding.

The box is slim and clean cut, before even opening the product I was already impressed. On one side of the product is a standard brow brush and on the other side is the precision brow pencil, which twists up and down. The pencil is very fine, making it appear more natural, which is something that I was looking for. When you applying, you have a lot of control over the lines created, due to the fine pencil, and so it is less noticeable that you have filled in your brows.

The only down side to this product is that there is very little of the pencil, aside from that, I am really happy with the purchase of this product and for only £8, you cannot possibly go wrong.

The Best Hand Food

£2.50 (50 ml)

Soap & Glory are by far my favourite bath and body brand. I am always out to try more of their range and have accumulated quite a list of products I would like to try. Last weekend, whilst on my lunch break, I decided to pop into Boots as I was on the hunt for a new hand cream to pop into my handbag. I asked the ladies behind the counter which hand cream they would recommend and all of them said the S&G hand food, so I thought I would give it a try.

Hand food contains Shea butter and Macadamia oil; the smell is amazing but I do find that it can be a bit overpowering after a while. The texture is nice and thick without being too sticky, making it easier rub in and no residue is left on your hands after use. The Shea butter and Macadamia oil are completely absorbed into your skin leaving it feeling moisturised, perfect for those of you with dry skin.

Overall, it is a great product and I love how moisturising it is. However, I would not repurchase it as the scent is a little bit too overpowering for me but if you are a fan of the Lush snow fairy scent then Hand food is for you.

What is your favourite hand cream?

My Final Year

Tomorrow I will be entering my final year of High school, Year 11. I study German, Geography and Physical Education and in a matter of months, I will be taking my final exams before heading off to Sixth Form. I am quite nervous for the exams but I know if I put in the work then I will get my desired results. High school has been a strenuous five years and I am more than excited to be leaving.

"LET THE COUNTDOWN BEGIN!"

Keep Organised
Make sure to hand every piece of work in on time and complete work the night it is set, so that you can have a stress free year and more spare time on weekends. Get a planner so that you can write down all of your exams dates, when you have to study, and when you have homework due. Time management is essential. If you're given an assignment that's due next week, don't procrastinate, get started within a few days of receiving it. The more time you have, the less you will be stressed.

Study. Study. Study
Try to study in 20-50 minute intervals, taking five or ten minutes in between for a break. Breaking your studying into shorter periods of time will make it less of a chore also give yourself time to absorb the material before moving on. Make sure work is done before socialising, studying is a crucial part of learning, so do the work before heading out to have fun.

Be Optimistic
Being optimistic is always good. Seeing only the negative aspects of any situation can cause you to miss opportunities and neglect problems that need to be solved. Look for the light at the end of the tunnel and start seeing the glass as half full instead of half empty.

Good luck to everyone starting high school, college or university!

A New Skincare Addition | Epaderm

£12.20 (500g)

Last week I received a sample from Epaderm of their 2 in 1 emollient and skin cleanser cream. After a week of trial, I have come to a judgement of the product and I can honestly say that this product is amazing, it does exactly what is says on the bottle and more.

I have severe eczema on the back and inside of my arms and legs; I have tried EVERY product recommended by the Doctor but none of them seem to work besides E45 which I use on a daily basis anyway. I was looking for something that would hydrate the areas where I have eczema rather than just form a thick layer of grease on top of my skin.

The cream is SLS-free, contains no colourings or fragrances, and is also suitable for sensitive skin. The smell is not too great which is expected for a eczema cream, I am yet to find one that does smell good.

The texture is nice and thick without being too sticky, making it easier to apply. There was no oily residue left on my hands after application, I felt that the cream was absorbed into my skin leaving it feeling soothed and moisturised.

Overall, the cream was 10/10 and I loved how moisturising it was to my skin. I will hundred percent be repurchasing this product and adding it to my everyday skincare regime. If you suffer from eczema, psoriasis or any other dry skin conditions, then I recommend popping into your local Boots, Sainsburys, Lloyds Pharmacy or Superdrug and picking up some Epaderm!

Have you tried this product? I would love to hear what you thought of it.

SUNDAY SUMMARY #2

Good evening everyone, summer is almost over and autumn is fast approaching!

My Last Two Weeks: For the past two weeks I have been posting a lot on my Instagram, from pictures of food to sunsets, I am really getting into photography at the moment, so be sure to follow me to see more, @franrockey

I started at my new job last Tuesday (4th), I am now a shop assistant at the Olde Sweet Shoppe in Hitchin, being surrounded by sweets for eight hours and a half a day is torture when you are trying to be healthy but nevertheless I have been able to resist temptation, for now.

This Tuesday (11th) my colleagues and I headed down to The Angel’s in Hitchin for a lovely after work treat, the food was amazing and the service was impeccable, shout out to our waitress Georgia. If you have an Angel's restaurant near where you live, I recommend going in and trying their American style cuisine, you will not be left disappointed!

Hope you’ve all had a great week! And let’s hope the last few weeks of summer brighten up!

Quick Update

I cannot believe that we are now almost half way through the summer, honestly where has the time gone? I have two bits of exciting news to share. Last week I got a job at the Old Sweet Shoppe in Hitchin, if any of you are from the Bedfordshire or Hertfordshire area, be sure to pop in and say hello, I promise... I don't bite!

The second bit of exciting news is that I will be featuring in Issue 2 of Love Mag. I contacted the creator of Love Mag, Florence, as she was looking for a columnist and I thought it would be a great opportunity to get my writing out. My column will be discussing current political and worldwide topics. I am currently unaware of the date that the Issue will be out but I will be sure to announce it on Twitter, @franciscarockey, when I know.

If you would like to read my article, about Police Brutality, then you can order at Issue online from LoveMag@gmail.com - The magazine is currently only available to order online, hopefully future issues will be available in stores.

Hope you are all having a lovely summer!

A New Adventure

On Tuesday, for the first time ever, I went to Thorpe Park. I am an absolute adrenaline junkie and I love roller coasters and anything that makes your heart sink into the pit of your stomach.

I managed to go on 5 rides; Swarm, Tidal wave, Vortex, Quantum and Loggers leap. Although I spent a lot of time screaming at the top of my lungs, I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed every ride I went on. My favourite of the 5 was the infamous Swarm, OH MY GOD was it frightening and at one point I was convinced that I was going to die but nevertheless I loved it!

What is your favourite ride at Thorpe Park?

One Year On...

Last month was my one year blogging anniversary. I have been blogging for over a year. Wow, I did not think for a second that I would make it past a month, let alone a year!

If you have been here from the beginning then you will know that my blog was once called, 'Fran's World'. I quickly grew out of that name and the pink design that came with it and decided to redesign and use my full name as my blog name. Since redesigning my blog, I have reached 70 followers, which may seem small, in comparison to other bloggers who started at the same time as myself and have hundreds but, I had a long period of time where I did not post and considered deleting my blog, which I did for a brief amount of time before I realised that I had made a mistake so, quickly recovered it.

Through blogging I have learnt that taking the easy option is not always the best option, sometimes you have to push yourself to do things that are out of your comfort zone. What is the fun in always playing it safe and not being adventurous or spontaneous ay?

Where do I see my blog in the next year?
In the next year, I hope that my blog will continue to grow and even more people will be reading it. I would also like to hopefully meet some of you and perhaps attend some blogging events.

Thank you to everyone who has been following my blog since the beginning or even if you are a new follower, I honestly could not have done this without your lovely comments and support!

Wanderlust

Define Wanderlust: A strong desire to travel and explore the world

From a young age I have always had a strong desire to travel and explore the world. I want to try new food from different countries, experience different cultures and document my travels. Travelling comes with a hefty price tag and I want to backpack around Europe during a gap year before heading to University in a few years, which is why I have started saving really early on so I can afford to visit all the places in which I desire to explore without money being a reason to hold me back.

I plan to visit:
1. France (Paris & Nice)
2. Spain (Barcelona, Madrid)
3. Italy (Venice, Italy, Florence & Milan )
4. Greece (Santorini & Athens)
5. Croatia (Brac)
6. Hungary (Budapest)
7. Austria (Vienna)
8. Germany (Munich, Frankfurt, Berlin, Hamburg)
9. Belgium (Brussels)
10. Netherlands (Amsterdam)

Which places would you like to travel to?

My Sheinside Experience

Sheinside is an American online clothing store with over 10000+ women's clothing. I was a bit aprehensive about ordering from here at first because at first glance the website do not look very trustworthy but I can assure you it is. If you are living in the United Kingdom, if you spend over £20.97 you are get free standard shipping on your order. Orders take 24 hours to be shipped and either 8-10 days to be delivered, express delivery and 10-12 days, standard delivery. I received my order after just 8 days which I was very surprised about as it was standard delivery. I would recommened paying the extra 68p for shipping insurance to ensure your package is not lost and can be tracked.

How they looked on the website:

How they looked in real life:

With Sheinside you get what you pay for. I brought these Blue mid waist ripped denim shorts for £8.94 and honestly if you felt the material you would never guess, they feel very similar to Topshop shorts. They are a great fit, the waist fits well and do not leave that annoying gap at the back, small waist problems, also the rips are in the right places and are not at all revealing.

The second item I purchased was this Black and White striped short sleeve straight dress. One word, Wow. I did not expected the material to be so soft and structured, for the price of £11.97 I definitely got more than I bargained for! I am 5 foot 2 so dresses like this can sometimes make me look frumpy and short but this is the perfect fit, just above my knee, not too loose not too right. True to size and amazing quality!

Overall, I am very impressed with my first experience with Sheinside and will definitely be ordering more from here again in the future!
